Town records indicate this circa 1795 cape, known as the "Nichols House", to be in the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of Barre's oldest surviving buildings and was built by one of the town's first settlers. Located a few hundred feet from the Millstone Trails. In the 1990s, previous owners built an addition with historically accurate details to match the original structure for a total of 2,236 +/- finished sq ft. The timberframe construction has unusually high ceilings at 8'6" which gives the home a spacious feel. The wide pine floors add amazing character. A fully equipped kitchen with Barre Granite countertops also has an eat in area next to a french door that leads to the back deck, patio, and hedge bordered back yard. In the center of the home is a "beehive" chimney with 6 flues and 3 antique brick fireplaces located in the kitchen, den, and formal dining room. The 1st floor bathroom has a claw foot tub. You can't help but be transported back in time in this beautiful home. The 28' x 17' addition has a large living room & wood stove on the 1st floor and a master bedroom with walk in closet on the 2nd floor. A laundry area, 3/4 bathroom, and two more bedrooms finish up the 2nd floor. The front entry is accessed from a gorgeous wrap around porch. The house sits on 1.7 acres and a 50' x 30' wide open 3 door garage/workshop is located across the street on .7 more acres. One section of the roof replaced June 2019 & the top of the chimney was rebuilt.
